International Trivia Contest results!

Hey all!

The trivia contest turned out to be incredibly difficult. After tabulating the answers, no one got the quiz 100% right, so I’m changing the rules slightly (because after all, we WANT there to be winners) and selecting the winners as the folks with the most correct answers. Speaking of winners, the lucky few are posted below. First, here are the answers to the quiz:

1 ) What intersection in Manhattan is the original Baxter Building (home of the Fantastic Four) located?

42nd Street & Madison Ave.

2 ) Thor’s Hammer, Mjonair, is the source of his powers. Only one determined worthy by Odin himself can wield it. Name two iconic heroes besides Thor that have wielded it. Btw, they aren’t all necessarily Marvel characters…

Mjolnir has been wielded by a select number of other individuals: alien Beta Ray Bill; Buri (also known as Tiwaz, and Thor’s great-grandfather); Avenger Captain America; Eric Masterson; Odin and Borr (Odin’s Father); Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099)

There are also several other non-canon instances of other characters lifting the hammer, including: Conan the Barbarian; Dargo Ktor (Future Thor); Loki; Magni; Rogue; Woden; Alex Power; and the DC Comics characters Superman (though he was unable to later that issue and Thor claimed Odin had briefly lifted the enchantment) and Wonder Woman.

Several imitations of Mjolnir have also existed. These include Stormbreaker and the mace Thunderstrike, created for Beta Ray Bill and Eric Masterson respectively. Loki has been responsible for the creation of several imitations – a version of Mjolnir is presented to the mutant X-Men member Storm in an attempt to control her, while another version is given to the mercenary Deadpool to spite Thor. Loki also allows Surtur to use the forge Mjolnir was created from to craft copies during Ragnarok. H.Y.D.R.A. created evil versions of Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye and Thor, the Thor imitator had a technological imitation of Mjolnir. Tony Stark and Reed Richards also create a technological imitation Mjolnir for use by Ragnarok, the clone of Thor, during the Civil War storyline.

3 ) Johann Schmidt is not the only one to assume the identity of the Red Skull. Who assumed the mantle of the Red Skull when Schmidt was missing during the 1950′s?

Albert Malik

4 ) Which of these characters was never an official member of the Fantastic Four: Hulk, Spider-Man, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Wolverine, Ghost Rider II

Namor the Sub-Mariner

5 ) True or False: One of Wolverine’s potential origin stories stated that he was a mutated wolverine cub.

True. From Wikipedia – “(Len) Wein has stated in a conversation with Stan Lee included on the X-Men Origins: Wolverine blu-ray special features that he has read ‘Ten things you did not know about Wolverine,’ which states that he was originally intended to be a mutated wolverine cub, and this re-kindled Wein’s frustration. He again stated that he had “always known that Wolverine was a mutant.”

6 ) Name 5 members of the Deadpool Corps.

Deadpool, Lady Deadpool, Headpool, Kidpool, Dogpool, Champion

7 ) Three women have been known as the Black Widow in the main Marvel Universe. Natasha Romanoff is one. Who are the other two?

Claire Voyant and Yelena Belova. Monica Chang held the moniker of the Black Widow in the Marvel Ultimates Universe, not the main timeline.

8 ) What book did the Black Cat (Felicia Hardy) debut in?

The Amazing Spider-Man #194 (July 1979)

9 ) During Civil War, who comes to rescue Spider Woman from the  S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier?

Agents of H.Y.D.R.A.

10 ) Throg (a frog with the powers of Thor) was once a member of the Pet Avengers. True or False: Bo Obama (yes, the President of the United States’ dog) was also a Pet Avenger.

TRUE. From ComicVine.com – “…Lockjaw used the Infinity Gems to create a psychic link between all of the animals present.  Their eyes flashed with a bright white light and Hairball complained that he didn’t want Ms Lion’s thoughts in his head.  With the telepathic connection they could alert each other should they need to assemble the Pet Avengers again.  Lockjaw then teleported the Pet Avengers away.  Still on the lawn of the White House, Bo Obama’s eyes also flashed with a bright white light, indicating that Lockjaw had inducted him into the Pet Avengers.”

Magic Number: 432

Like I mentioned above, no one got a perfect score. However, we did have 7 entries with 9 out of 10 answers correct. So, I’ve gotten approval to send out two extra Captain Amercia Movie Mini Busts to the two additional winners. With that, here are your winners:

  • Brenda Pryer – 279
  • Jansen Manticore – 254
  • Andrea Drotleff – 107
  • Rob Goult – 727
  • Duncan Smith –  818
  • Les Wood – 742
  • Donna Towner – 342 (Squirrelpool winner!)

Thank you to all who entered and congratulations to our winners! Collectors, keep your eyes peeled in October for more giveaways and exciting announcements.

Happy Collecting!
